Key Features

From bleaching to photo-conversion
The cell^frap module is controlled via a highly flexible interface enabling users to perform easy and fast FRAP, FLIP and photo-switching, with different pre-settings adapted to each application providing perfect experimental conditions. Furthermore, a unique interface for interactive point and multi-point photo-switching ensures the best possible results are obtained during real-time experiments. More advanced users can precisely control each setting, ensuring that a broad range of procedures can be carried out, including inverse FRAP, FLIP, FLAP, photo-activation, photo-conversion and photo-switching with multiple regions of interest.

Optically advanced
The Olympus xcellence cell^frap system uses an independent light path enabling simultaneous fluorescence imaging and bleaching. The cell^frap module can also integrate seamlessly with other advanced fluorescence imaging modules such as the cell^tirf and spinning disk confocal imaging suites.
Flexible laser options
The cell^frap system can be integrated with two separate laser channels or a multi-laser combiner, providing excellent flexibility. Combined with UV compatible optics, this gives the user an unmatched level of flexibility when it comes to laser and fluorophore choice. |
Intelligent scanning modes
By scanning just the region of interest, bleaching is achieved at a rate up to 10 times faster than standard methods and multiple areas within the same frame can be bleached very quickly. Furthermore, the refraction limited spot size of the laser enables the precise and accurate bleaching of very small structures. |
Sub-cellular laser cutting
The unique optical path employed by the system enables the use of pulsed lasers to cut cellular components such as growth cones and filopodia, as well as intracellular structures such as actin fibres, microtubules, ER or mitochondria. This opens the door to a new world of direct functional analyses. |
Pattern bleaching
The cell^ frap system is capable of bleaching a large number of points in a defined pattern at high speed. Combined with diffraction limited optics this method provides a useful and attractive alternative to fluorescent speckle microscopy (FSM). It would therefore prove very useful in the study of macromolecular structures such as cytoskeletal elements.
Rapid Synchronisation
The Olympus cell^frap module is capable of incredibly fast switching between bleaching and image capture, matching you needs in all kinds of photomanipulation experiments. The switching time of under 200 µ seconds is real fast and just possible in combination with the xcellence Real-time Controller. |
